Honey, we need to talk.
a kind and caring invitation to a serious conversation. a conversation so serious, we bent it in neon.
2015, commission, collaboration with Design School Kolding & Kvist Industries
The concept “Honey, we need to talk.“ creates a platform and an invitation to conversation about the future of design and the designers breed to create it.
The core of the room – a 20 ft. container space – is the Table for Conversation; a 4 meter long standing table. The materiality and tactility of the table is exploiting the full potential of its material – oak wood. The Table for Conversation was cut entirely from one log of wood and represents a material dialogue between perfection and imperfection – an expression of diversity, beauty and possibility. This is what design can do – cover every extreme, from one end of the scale to the other, including everything in between. The raw side and the polished side of the table – the two material extremes – are connected by a space for just this everything in between.
This space in between holds the collection of speculative Conversation Starters who, in the glare of the neon lights, kindly invite the visitor to engage in conversation. The Conversation Starters is a collection of post cards, taking the starting point in reflections upon the future of design, interpreted and communicated by a group of BA students of Design School Kolding.
The distorted grid covering wall and ceiling, interferes with the perception of space, and kindly implies that the visitor dares to think outside the box – the container – facilitating the conversation. All of this, because it is so darn important that we talk to each other – about the future, and about the role of design.
“Everybody knows the feeling that sentence triggers. Honey, we need to talk.
The sweet invitation for a serious conversation.”
"Honey, we need to talk." was created in collaboration with KVIST Industries and Design School Kolding, as part of the exhibition 'The Tube 2015', taking its starting point in an interpretation of 'the table'.
